Surrounded by the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, artist Julie Marcelia reflects the ever-changing beauty of these environments in her metal leaf paintings. Using a unique signature style layering texture, metal leaf, and paint, Julie creates a dynamic visual experience, allowing her pieces to evolve with changing light, infusing movement and life. Her innovative combinations of materials and techniques result in pieces that are both exploratory and contemporary.
The recurring theme of moving water inspires many of Julie's Reflections series on metal leaf. Water has not only long been a symbol of transformation and change but also of continuity and the eternal. Water, as a physical force, shapes landscapes, carves paths, and sustains life, expressing strength, and fluidity. Spiritually, it symbolizes cleansing and renewal, connecting our souls with a larger transformative power. In her art, the movement of water is a hopeful force allowing forms, colors, and ideas to emerge making way for change and new possibilities.
Julie resides in the Seattle area. She holds a bachelor’s degree as well as a master’s degree in fine arts, first studying music before pivoting into the visual arts. She is a member artist of the Art Gallery of SnoValley, a regional collective art gallery in historic Snoqualmie, WA. Her award winning paintings reside in many collections throughout the United States.
