Nurtured for nearly her whole life by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, artist Julie Marcelia captures the ever-changing beauty of these land and seascapes in her metal leaf-scape paintings. She translates their dynamism into her own unique interpretations with a keen eye for color and a heartfelt connection to her surroundings. The recurring theme of moving water inspires her Reflections series on metal leaf.
Julie resides in the Seattle area. She has a bachelor’s degree as well as a master’s degree in the arts. Her initial are of study was music. Later, her love of painting directed her to the visual arts. Now one informs the other. Components such as rhythm, harmony, balance, pattern, and dynamics are really part of both art forms, and Julie loves exploring these concepts in her work.
Crafting a unique signature style that layers texture, reflective metal leaf, and paint, her approach creates a dynamic experience, allowing her pieces to evolve with changing light, infusing movement and life. This innovative technique results in pieces that transcend traditional boundaries, resist digital reproduction, and offer viewers a visually rich experience.
Julie invites viewers of her art to connect with the larger transformative power that shapes our world: be calmed by the ocean’s horizons, be grounded by the mountains’ grandeur, be comforted by the persistent trickle of a little stream, and be amazed by the the rushing flow of a river. "Life is this simple: we are living in a world that is absolutely transparent and the divine is shining through it all the time." – Thomas Merton
